I recently purchased an EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM from eBay and I'm not convinced the image stabilization is working. Obviously, the switch is set to "IS". With my L series glass, there's usually a little click or whir and can see the glass move through the viewfinder. With this 24mm lens there is no sound or movement that I can discern. A great example of this trend is the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, a really excellent wide-to-medium range zoom with image stabilization. then skip this and go 24-70L or wait for the rumouredCanon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM Verdict Used Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II USM. Options. 10-02-2018 08:19 AM. I would go with the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM. I owned the EF 28mm f/1.8 USM briefly but sold it because I found it was not sharp wide open. Most reviewers say the EF 28mm f/1.8 USM is soft wide open, and even when stopped down to f/2.8, it is still not as sharp as the IS lens wide open at at f/2.8. Mike Sowsun.
